Establishing Relationship Through Sibling DNA TestingSibling DNA testing is the method used to establish the genetic relationship between two siblings. This technique establishes the fact as to whether two or more people are siblings or not. Sibling DNA testing involves the analysis of biological samples collected from both the people. It is preferred that a common parent's DNA is also analyzed, so as to increase the accuracy of the analysis. It is advisable to test the samples from both the controversial siblings and their parents. This can determine if both of them are the offsprings of the same parents. In case the parents are unavailable, the DNA of the both potential siblings, alone can also be very useful. How The Process Works The process of sibling DNA testing involves the determination of the genetic profile of the controversial siblings in a DNA laboratory. The profile is derived from the genetic material collected from each of the alleged siblings. It helps in the determination of the DNA index . After the result from the DNA index is obtained, the relationship between the two individuals is established. If the DNA index is of a higher value, then it shows a high possibility that the persons in question are siblings in the true sense of the word. For example, a DNA index with a volume of less than 1.00 proves that the persons are not siblings. On the other hand, if the value is greater than 1.00, then it proves that there is high possibility that the two persons are truly siblings. Total Certainty Is Hard To Achieve One thing is to be noted that the tests only provide an indication. This is because it is not possible at all to say with 100% certainty that whether the two people in question are definitely siblings. As a matter of fact, two results can be derived from sibling DNA testing. It would either determine that the two individuals are full siblings (children of the same parents) or they are half siblings (children of the same father or the same mother). Identical Or Fraternal Twins Sibling DNA testing also helps to determine whether the twin siblings are identical or fraternal. If the DNA profiles are identical to each other, then it is possible for the both the people to be identical twins. On the other hand, if the DNA profile is different then the two siblings are considered to be fraternal twins. The sibling DNA testing is different from the paternity tests as it does not produce a conclusive result. Still, sibling DNA testing is very useful as it helps a person in the determination of the fact that whether he/she is likely to be or not the sibling of the other person in question. |
