Hair DNA Test
The term Hair DNA is used to refer the DNA extracted from the hair of a human being. Hair is known to be one of the major resources of human DNA. Hair DNA is the major source for forensic hair analysis. This forensic hair DNA analysis is also known as Hair DNA test. The hair DNA test is done to decide paternity issues and identify the criminals. The Process A hair DNA test involves the use of a hair, with the roots and follicles still attached to it. The hair has to be pulled out of the head so that the hair roots and follicles remain intact. A hair strand from a hair brush cannot be used. Usually, three to four strands of hair are needed to perform a DNA paternity test. Hair samples can be taken from some specific parts of the body. Usually, they are taken from the back of the scalp and sometimes from the pubic area. These hair samples are usually collected from that section of the hair which is closest to the skin. This is done because the hair close to the skin or scalp has the most recent growth. This growth provides the most accurate information about the recent occurrences in the body. A hair DNA test is sometimes done to determine the identity of the parents of a child. This method is used to determine the identity of parents in a court of law. It can reveal the identity of the mother or the father or both. The information derived is pretty much useful for parents who are engaged in a custodial suit to receive the custody of the concerned child. The paternity of the father is very important in most of the states in order to receive any kind of governmental support. Cheaper Alternative A Hair DNA test is much cheaper than any other type of DNA test. Also, a hair DNA test is considered reliable in a court of law because of the accurate results provided by it. Usually, a hair DNA test is done in a laboratory but some people also use the home test kit and then send the sample to the laboratory for the results. Earlier, blood tests were performed to determine the identity of the parents. The test has proved to be inconclusive therefore the courts have begun to rely on hair DNA paternity tests to find the biological father. This method of parental identification has proved to be very successful with the law enforcement agencies. |
