There are two main techniques used in a Genealogy DNA test- the first one is to map polymorphisms on the Y chromosome in order to trace the paternal line and on the mitochondrial to trace the maternal lines. The problem encountered in both the methods here is that they can only trace the two genetic lines on a family tree and the branches in those genetic lines double with every preceding generation. For an instance, the Y chromosome tracing can easily connect a man to his father but not to his mother. Moreover, it can only connect him to one of his four grandparents i.e. his paternal grandfather. All the problems withstanding, Genealogy DNA test has proved to be very popular. In fact it has now become very easy for a person with enough financial support, to trace his/her ancestry and find out his/her family history. |
